2019 Valerie’s Vineyard Méthode Ancienne Pinot Noir
Production Notes: I am honored to be continuing the tradition of responsible, organic farming practices put in place by the Coats family almost two decades ago when this vineyard was planted. Picked in the middle of the night, we sorted once in the vineyard and the twice in the winery to assure only the best quality fruit was included in our fermentations.
“Méthode ancienne” is French for “ancient method,” and it refers to winemaking techniques and philosophies established centuries ago in France’s Burgundy region. This involves only using native yeasts as well as the use of 100% whole cluster fermentations in combination with aging in 100% Neutral French Oak for 16 months to ensure a true representation of the vineyard.
Tasting Notes: There is delicate balance between elegance and power coupled with red fruit and mild earth notes making for a wine that brings both old and new world nuisances. These flavors persist on the palate and pair well with the smooth tannins and depth of flavor found in the finish.
